Nothing makes my heart glad like seeing worthy causes meet and exceed their goals. That is what the Christine B. Foundation Eastern Trek for Cancer has done.
The relay starts in Portland, Maine and will take seven days to reach Battery Park, New York City. Each of the thirteen runners will complete seven to twelve miles. This is all in honor of Christine Dexter who lost her battle with stomach cancer in 2008. Her son Matt, who is the founder, will be running one leg of the relay, and he has been running since the foundation was started in 2015.
While most organizations raise money for research, Matt and his team fundraise to provide support to those struggling from cancer. This could be through social, education, or financial support. This includes comfort bags which are distributed to cancer patients throughout New England. The foundation also gives one scholarship yearly to a student who has cancer or is directly affected by a parent having it.
The group has exceeded their goal, but their efforts do not end when the relay ends. So it is not too late to donate! For more information on the foundation and to make a donation, visit the website.
