2016 is gone, and I get to reflect back on some wonderful moments and accomplishments. My heart has grown over the year, and so has my assertiveness. It could always use work, but I think my overall growth deserves a shout-out.
It was a year of loss, and one that brought out the worst in some of the best people I know. However, there is so much more to be taken from this year. It was about charitable giving and forging new friendships. Another major focus was challenging myself at work and at play, as well as abroad as I navigated other countries on solo trips.
I have so much to be grateful for, and as I enter 2017, I’ll hold onto that with both hands. That includes the people who styled me, provided me laughs, and took long rides with me. Those who trusted me with their children even though I can’t keep plants alive. I am thankful for apologies because they are golden in friendships. I am thankful for thoughtfulness, for perfectly timed visits with coffee in hand (Nina, you’re a true MVP). For my Thursday night crew; those ladies always supplied me with support and enlightening conversation. I’m thankful for my voice of reason Jeannie who motivated and encouraged me. I’m also thankful for those who helped me navigate new countries without getting lost or robbed. I’m looking at you Maria and Anthony. And I can’t forget the serendipitous encounter that brought me a new friend, Abby. She’s the spunky Minnesotan who explored Sydney with me only five minutes after meeting me.
What’s even better is that I get to take all of these light sources into this new year with me.
I have no desire to make a resolution for this year, because resolutions are often broken. I’m making a pact with myself. I’m walking into 2017 intuitively placing my needs first. I will listen to my body and my spirit when they signal dis-ease, or a need for rest. I will also take up a better skincare regimen. There is a lot in store and at stake in 2017, so I need a clear(er) mind and strong body to make it all happen.
Here are some of my favorite moments from 2016, ones that excite me about all of the possibilities for 2017:
